The Law Society`s continuing professional development (“CPD”) requirement for licensees includes at least 12 hours of eligible educational activities per calendar year. The CPD requirement includes at least 3 hours of professionalism (including 1 hour of EDI professionalism) and 9 hours of content. Substantive hours do not need to be accredited If the program or activity has not been accredited to professionalism and a licensee wishes to credit it to their CPD professionalism hours requirement, the licensee or education provider must meet CPD`s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) requirement as of January 1, 2018. Lawyers and paralegals must complete a total of 3 hours of professionalism between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2020, with a focus on promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the legal and paralegal professions. After that, lawyers and paralegals must complete 1 hour of professionalism each year, which addresses issues of equality, diversity and inclusion.
