Khuda had worked for U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan, his home country, for nearly 8 years. His job was to help the United States defuse landmines. Not only this dangerous work, but the alliance with U.S. forces put Khuda and his family in even greater danger. Khuda was shot 3 times and also survived a landmine explosion. He was able to recover from the injuries, but Khuda no longer felt safe for himself and his family in Afghanistan. Because of his work with U.S. Special Forces, he and his family were eventually able to come to the United States on Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs). With the help of the YMCA, Khuda quickly found a job at a security company. His wife not only takes care of the children at home, but also takes English as a Second Language classes online to improve her English.
