Summer Legal Associate 2022

Each Summer Associate is paired with a mentor who provides advice, guidance and training throughout the summer. This mentoring relationship helps you make the most of your summer experience and prepares you for a successful legal career. We recognize that training is an essential part of the professional development of any lawyer. Our goal is to provide our lawyers and summer staff with the essential knowledge, skills and resources they need to achieve legal excellence. In addition to the regular work projects that are assigned throughout the summer, the firm offers assignments to the public for summer employees to see what it`s like to be a practicing lawyer. Our summer associates observe them and, to the extent possible, assist them in processes, hearings, testimonies and negotiations, and participate in client meetings and transactions. Summer employees are expected to be in the office during regular business hours (usually 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). While there is a budget requirement for our lawyers, there is no set number of hours that a summer employee must charge. The Summer Associate Program is not limited to work. You will have the opportunity to attend specific industry and practice group events and small group meetings with our lawyers. Several social events are planned over the summer, including a company-wide event where all of our summer associates come together to learn more about our firm and have fun.

The supervising lawyers for each project evaluate the work product of the summer employees. The Chair of Recruitment, Department Chairs, Summer Chair and/or Talent Acquisition staff who oversee the overall progress of Summer Associates continue to review the assessments. The lawyer hired for the project provides oral feedback to summer employees once the project is completed. There is also a formal evaluation in mid-summer. We also encourage summer partners to proactively seek input from the lawyers they work with. Full-time job offers will be announced after the end of the summer program. Meeting and getting to know our lawyers is one of the most important parts of the summer experience. Our lawyers are the foundation of the firm.

They have different backgrounds and each contributes to the success of companies. Various social events are planned to facilitate interaction with lawyers on an informal basis – events such as a summer launch party, joint office training, dinners, charity activities, concerts and/or sporting events. These events provide excellent opportunities to get to know our lawyers better and get to know you. They will also help you learn more about the city where you spend the summer. Sarah Shields, Summer 2022 Partner, along with partner Sujata Yalamanchili and articling student, Rebecca Reinhardt, contributed to an article published in the October 10, 2022 issue of TaxNotes State. Our goal is to provide you with a complete and complete training relevant to your summer experience. The firm`s talent development department is responsible for developing programs that provide in-depth legal knowledge, practical legal skills, and soft management skills. As part of our summer program, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of training programs.

Each office develops a training plan that may include office-specific, departmental and global programs for summer employees. Some of the programs focus on filing skills training, writing/design, process training, transactional training, internship programs, and client presentations. We want to offer our summer employees, as well as our lawyers, all the tools they need to succeed and achieve their professional goals. Each of our offices offers summer employees the opportunity to participate in volunteer work. Those interested in such work should check with the appropriate work order coordinator about these opportunities. In addition, the firm offers a limited number of second-year law students the opportunity to participate in our Public Interest Split program. The not-for-profit organization is subject to conflict resolution and company approval prior to the start of the summer program. Interested individuals should ask to be considered for this program during their recall interview. As we hope that all summer employees will return as full-time employees, the company devotes a lot of energy, time and resources to making each student`s experience challenging and rewarding.

Summer partners are faced with legal issues of concern to real clients and often have the opportunity to present their findings directly to our clients. By the end of the summer, our summer employees will have worked closely with partners and associates on important and topical issues. To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not need funding for work visa status now or in the future. Law students in Husch Blackwell`s nationally ranked Summer Associate program have a challenging and hands-on experience preparing for life`s responsibilities as practicing lawyers. This means working with our partners and partners, contributing to studies and participating in the structuring and negotiation of business transactions as well as customer conferences. Summer partners work in various areas of law, strengthen their legal skills and gain insight into the firm in general. The training received during the summer lays the foundation for Skadden`s professional development. Here are some examples of workshops and presentations that can be offered throughout the summer.

For over forty years, we have hired law students from across the country every summer to join our summer affiliate program. Our recruitment efforts are comprehensive and thoughtful – and for good reason: we hire our summer employees in the hope that they will excel in the program and join us as first-year partners after graduating from law school, and we hire first-year employees in the hope that they will thrive in the firm and become valuable members of one of our various practices. We don`t just hire organizations to fulfill our summer program, we hire colleagues. The goal of our Associate Summer Program is to give our summer employees a realistic idea of what it`s like to work for Hodgson Russ. We offer our summer employees the opportunity to do meaningful work on real-world issues with clients, participate in training programs alongside our employees, and get to know our lawyers and each other through a variety of social events. At Hodgson Russ, we don`t just encourage our summer employees to do meaningful work. We expect that. We supplement summer assignments with many “lawyer” activities such as conference calls, client meetings, court hearings, statements and court appearances. Summer partners also have the opportunity to practice their public speaking skills by conducting research and presenting a legal education seminar for our lawyers.

Each department works through the Work Assignment Coordinators. If you have the opportunity to complete a project for a lawyer, contact your Work Assignment Coordinator first before committing to undertaking the project. Maybe they`ve already planned your next project or want to give you more variety in tasks. We encourage summer employees to be flexible and work on assignments with a variety of lawyers to become familiar with our practice. Although the specific structure varies from office to office, each system is designed to achieve this goal. This gives summer employees the opportunity to make more informed decisions about their areas of interest and demonstrate their skills to different teams. Mentorship is the backbone of our summer program and the foundation of every new lawyer at Hodgson Russ` experience. Each summer employee is assigned a mentor who ensures that he or she gets the right balance and the right type of work based on his or her particular interests. Yes, the company will pay for round-trip flights between a summer employee`s law school and the office where they will work.
